Black Indigenous and People of
Color Support Groups

NAMI SF offers free and confidential mental health support groups for people of all backgrounds. Additionally, we offer  Black, Indigenous and People of Color Support groups for individuals living with a mental health condition and loved ones of individuals living with a mental health condition. These groups are managed and facilitated people that BIPOC peers. Our support groups offer understanding, encouragement and hope for individuals (18+). 

Advocating for Your Black Child

NAMI SF in partnership with The Kuumba Healing Project / SFDPH is pleased to offer 

Advocating for Your Black Child.  (A4YBC) is a free, 8-week psycho-education series for Black parents and caregivers of Black children & teens (elementary-high school) living with mental health and/or learning differences. Advocating for Your Black Child (A4YBC) is offered in a virtual group setting so that you can safely and confidently connect with other Black Parents.  The class provides critical information & strategies created specifically with the Black family in mind.   The A4YBC curriculum provides a wealth of practical resources throughout the series. It was designed specifically to support the Black family in navigating school, political and social systems for your child.

Black Emotional and Mental Health Collection (BEAM)
Group aimed at removing the barriers that Black people experience getting access to or staying connected with emotional health care and healing. They do this through education, training, advocacy and the creative arts.

Black Mental Wellness
Provides access to evidence-based information and resources about mental health and behavioral health topics from a Black perspective, as well as training opportunities for students and professionals.

Loveland Foundation Therapy Fund
With the barriers affecting access to treatment by members of diverse ethnic and racial groups, the Loveland Therapy Fund provides financial assistance to Black women and girls seeking therapy nationally.

Family Paths
(Formerly Parental Stress Service) A non-profit organization of mental health professionals and dedicated volunteers that provides a number of mental health and supportive services to low income, multi-stressed individuals and families in Alameda County of the San Francisco Bay Area. Services include a 24-hour Parent Support Hotline, a Foster Parent Advice Line, CalWORKs Case Management, Positive Parenting Classes, and Family Yoga. They also provide counseling for children, adolescents, adults and families.

Organization advancing health equity and social justice for Black women through policy, advocacy, education, research and leadership development.

Brother, You’re on My Mind
An initiative launched by Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc. and NIMHD to raise awareness of the mental health challenges associated with depression and stress that affect Black men and families. Website offers an online toolkit that provides Omega Psi Phi Fraternity chapters with the materials needed to educate fellow fraternity brothers and community members on depression and stress in Black men.
